Using Stories in Learning

by Jim Hicks

My favorite learning component is not a specific technology or a delivery mode. I love stories integrated with the learning. Whenever possible, I try to drive learning through a narrative that engages the learners and illustrates key skills.

In the following presentation, which has been adapted from live discussions that I’ve led on the topic, I walk through using stories in learning, including:

  • What is the history of stories in learning?
  • Why use stories in learning?
  • Why do stories work?
  • What are the characteristics of good stories?
  • How are stories used in business?
